What Battersea property needs
- Victorian terraces across most of SW11 — Between the Commons and the roads off Northcote Road in particular. Most have been converted to combis at some point, and a good number have microbore pipework that silts up and leaves radiators cold at the bottom.
- Side-return and loft extensions are everywhere here. These usually add radiators or underfloor heating to a system that was never sized for them, which is why so many extended Battersea houses have one room that never gets properly warm. That’s a balancing and sizing problem, not always a boiler problem, and it’s far cheaper to fix than people are often told.
- Converted flats throughout, each with its own boiler and its own annual service requirement.
One thing worth knowing about the new riverside flats
Many of the newer developments along the river and around Nine Elms run on communal or district heating rather than individual boilers. If that’s your building, there may be no boiler in your flat at all — heat and hot water come from a central plant, and faults are the building management’s responsibility, not something an individual engineer can fix.
Ring us and describe what’s in your cupboard. If it’s a heat interface unit rather than a boiler we’ll tell you straight away and save you a call-out fee.
